Okok, I have a confession to make. I am having an affair with some German bitch!! After testing Mark 6 last week and kinda impressed with it, I can't wait to test drive the sexier slut, Scirocco. Sorry, I was so excited that I did not snap any photos.

First impression, the car is very wide. So wide that I was worry I can't maneuver through the narrow driveway. But the turning circle is very good. So good that is the best I ever seen. No issue clearing the path.

I chosed "sports" mode for suspension and paddle shift. Engine sounds lots better than GTI. Probably due to retuned exhaust. As usual I did not test the power but so far she did impress me. Acceleration is smooth, no jerk at all. Brake is excellent.

And I am very excited with the "active" steering wheel. The harder you turn, the heavier it will be. 2 ways communication, ya. I am most impressed with the handling of this car. Even with "Sports" mode on, the ride does not feel harsh or bone-crushing at all. Wheels are grippy and I would say, this is an user-friendly car. Any Tom, Dick and Harry can drive it fast.

Interior is peanut butter color and decent design. But nothing beats a black leather seats with red stiches. Feel like Michelle Rodriguez with greasy pants and silhouette on my lap, :P.The unit I tested is Mark 5's engine with 200PS(147kw). Engine code is BWA. Instead of Mark 6's engine with 210PS(155kw)(code:CCZ). Thus is 12 grand lesser than CCZ but is belt driven instead of chain. Still sexy..

Long story cut short. I went to test this unit a moment ago as for MYR200k ++, this is one of the major contenders.
I did not snap a lot of photos as this car is not much of a looker in the first place. The steering wheel is more towards sports type and I believe the target audience for this car is married but still young-at-heart. The steering is precise but what I like the most is the "active response" during hard cornering. Like feedback from the car. Kinda like power steering is off. Good. Power wise is pretty decent and handling is sharp. At least I am confident with it despite being first time in it. I did not test the top speed as I am more of a handling guy.
Interior wise, everything seems functional and reasonablely decent although is lack of excitement (except for the wheel). I like Italian cars but at MYR 211k without insurance, I will go for it compare to these two.

Unless is a Giulietta 1750 tbi M. Come on SDAC, do the right thing for the 1st time!!!!

I am having midlife crisis now and after 2 years with Shadow, my butt starts to itch.

With 220BHP, looking for replacement is pain in ass (read: I am not rich). So, i went over to SDAC for a test drive for Alfa Romeo 159 ti 3.2 V6 Automatic with 260BHP, 40 ponies more but how will it fares in real life.

I arrived at SDAC around 11am after checking Shadow at Sunshine(damn potholes).
The cabin is real spacious for the front, I did not check the rear. I am trying to understand why the perception that Camry, Accord, E-class, etc are comfy. Have they ever sit in an Alfa before?

Since the car has automatic gearbox with paddle shift, I feel is a little sluggish from standstill, probably I am so used to the "kick". At 260BHP, I am expecting more punch. The Ti did punch but like the 2.2, its feels like farm-bred horse. Not mustang, like how Italians should be.

Gear change is smooth, both automatic and paddle shift, a little too smooth for me. Growl is still there but 156 2.5 V6 stills demand more respect. That V6 is the best V6 engine so much that Alfa refuses to sell to Cosworth. functional dashboard

I noted the car pulls to the left, like out of aligment but the sales specialist told me it's like that due to the safety features. Somehow, I don't think so, anyone has any idea? He said, it's the same for Mito as well. Handling is something expected from Alfa Romeo, did a few slightly tight turns. Not dissapointing.

This probably the coolest feature but I prefer the Giulietta's flash.

Overall the car is good but SDAC made a mistake by bringing in the automatic. Well, I can see why, damn, Malaysians just don't know how to appreciate finer things in life!!. Alfa Romeo is a niche car, you got the do it the Italian way. Bring the manual please.

Price at MYR298,888. Only 3 avaibable. But I am waiting for Giulietta, SDAC, please do the right thing by bringing in the 1750 tbi.

Was at Damansara Uptown, so dropped by your-friendly-optical-lifestyle-store, Malaya Optical. Saw their collections of Oakley. Wow, awesome. Like collections of 10 stores!!! Price is pretty competitive too. And genuine service. To me, service is as important, if not more important than the eyewear itself. I don't like to walk into a store where the sales keep pushing me to buy things/services they sell, be it eyewear or other stuff.

Was as Alfa Romeo Launch Party this morning at Sime Darby AutoConnexion. Test drove the 159 and Brera. Spyder is not available and I test drove GT few years ago.

The 159 is pretty much awaited by true Alfa Romeo fans. Handling is better and less bodyroll than my baby. Predictable handling and smooth power. Having said that, I would say the car is like farm-bred horse, unlike my baby, the wild horse. Brake is a little soft for my liking. Overall is a good sports sedan and at RM 188k, it will give Auto Bavaria a run for their money.

Interior is a lot more better in 159. At least you don't get rough edges. Everything is smooth, just like the car.

Brera, to me is a 159 coupe, same engine, etc. I have the same feeling as well besides the "wow" factor. A lot more cooler. At RM318k, I would get a R32.

As mentioned earlier, GM’s is moving to the next phase in its ASEAN operations, 10 years after it started. Other manufacturers would be doing likewise and if the Malaysian government had any understanding of how the industry works, it would have been seriously looking at – and announcing - better and fairer policies a few years back. Billion ringgit investments are not approved overnight and are the subject of years of planning but it seems that the government assumes that they can announce a change in policy and carmakers will start building factories the following year (assuming the policy is an investor-friendly one). It doesn’t work like that and now that 10 years have passed since the original investments were made, the next wave of investments are already coming – and it could be that Malaysia has again missed the boat.

I AM 25 years old, and have been with my boyfriend, A, for three years. We are in the midst of planning to get married next year.

Recently, Government announced that the pay out subsidy for private cars below 2000cc, SUVs below 2500cc and motorcycles below 250cc be made on cash, via all the post offices in the country.

RM billions have been put aside for this exercise, meant to alleviate the burden of the much thought to be a ‘Flip-Flop’ decision of the exorbitant increase in retail price of petrol and diesel two weeks ago. The exercise was said to be decided by the ‘Cabinet technocrats’ Second Finance Minister Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yackop, Minister in the PM’s Department (in charge of EPU) Dato’ Amirsham Aziz and Agriculture and Agrobase Industry Minister Dato’ Mustapha Mohamad (from his NEAC experience), in a discussion meant to address the issue of IPPs and the affect on electricity tariffs. Eventually, someone proposed to unlift all subsidies on retail petrol and diesel eventually and pushed for PM ‘Flip-Flop’ Dato’ Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to announce hastily.

Maybe the public is not aware who are the shareholders of Pos Malaysia Services Holdings Bhd., the wholly own parent company of Pos Malaysia which has been given the authority and funds to channel these monies.

As of two years ago, pre-merger with ECM Libra, Avenue Capital Resources Bhd. owns 15.6% of Pos Malaysia Services Holdings Bhd. When the merger was successfully announced August 2006, which received approval of all the authorities (despite the attention drawn to the highly dodgy deal of ECM Libra merging with a much bigger firm and eventually took control), it was still believed that presently, ECM Libra still has the strategic 15.6% holdings of Pos Malaysia Services Holdings Bhd.

So who actually benefitted from this subsidy payout scheme?

If the amount is in the neighbourhood of RM 1 billion, then long term deposit with a commercial bank, Pos Malaysia or indirectly, ECM Libra would have made RM 39 million per annum or RM 106, 849.32 daily.

That is not including the management or services fee that Pos Malaysia charges the Government for this service. If the charge is just 1.0% of the amount, it means Pos Malaysia would have made RM 50 million per annum free income without incurring significant operations cost. If the pay out amount for the year is in multiples of RM 1 billion, then the profits will be realised will be on the same proportion.

That is definitely a great business model for the owners of ECM Libra, which include Riong Kali and Khairy Jamaluddin, two of PM ‘Flip-Flop’ Abdullah’s closest advisers!

A man called Maha owns a farm which can produce 10 apples every day.
He has 5 workers to operate the farm.
Each of them eats 1 apple daily and it is enough to keep them operating the
farm normally.
The remaining 4 apples, the landlord sells them at RM10 each and he earns
RM40.
He uses the RM25 to improve the farm operation and facilities.
He gives RM2.00 to each of his workers and he keeps the remaining RM5.00 as
profit.
Day by day, the farm is well developed and all of the 5 workers are happy
with the money they can save.

When Maha passed away and there is a new landlord, Abdul comes to continue
the farm operation.
He says to the workers:" We need to improve the farm quality and redefine
our way of thinking.
From now on all of you only need to pay RM1.00 for each apple you eat.
It is very cheap as the price is RM10 each outside the farm."
The workers have no choice but to pay RM1.00 for the apple they eat daily.
Their earning decrease from RM2.00 to RM1.00 per person.
As usual, Abdul sells the 4 apples and he gets RM40.
He uses RM25 for farm improvement and pays RM10 to his 5 workers.
He gets RM5.00 as profit. On top of that, he gets another RM5.00 from the
apples that he sells to his workers.
In total, he gets RM10 as profit every day.

Soon, the apple price increases to RM20 each.
The new landlord gets a higher profit as he gets RM80 for the 4 apples he
sells daily.
Then, he decides to give the farming improvement contract to one of his
close friend, Samy.
Samy says:"Apple cost naik, improvement cost also misti naik."
So, the farm improvement cost increases from RM25 to RM50.
In actual, the improvement only cost RM30.
The remaining RM20, Abdul and Samy share evenly among themselves.

Let's calculate how much Abdul gets daily:

RM10 (from farm improvement cost)
RM20 (Net profit by selling 4 apples: [Gross profit, RM80] - [Improvement
cost, RM50] - [Wages RM10] = RM20)
RM5 (from selling apples to his workers)

In total, Abdul gets RM35 daily compare to RM10 initially when he takes over
the farm from Maha.
His profit increases RM25 and the workers are still getting RM1.00 daily per
person.
The greedy Abdul does not want to stop there.
One day, he says to his fellow workers:" You see ah, the current market
price for one apple is RM20 and you are only paying RM1.
See how lucky you are! I have to SUBSIDY RM19.00 for each of the apple you
buy and total I need to SUBSIDY RM95.00.
This will greatly burden the farm and we might get bankrupt if we continue
like this.
In order to avoid bankruptcy, I need to increase the apple price that you
buy from RM1.00 to RM1.50 and I will bear the remaining RM18.50 per apple as
my subsidy to you all. "
So, greedy Abdul adds RM2.50 to his current profit and the number becomes
RM37.50.

After you have read the story, I am sure you have already understood the
meaning of "SUBSIDY" given by the government.

The RM95 subsidy never existed in the first place and so was the RM52
billion fuel subsidy generously "given" by the government

Cutting fuel subsidy is actually just a reason to steal money from your
pocket.

only one life time for their driving license? No renewal fee after
that? Also that goes for road tax as well? And do TheStar also aware
that you can drive all the way from Hadtyai to Bangkok on a six lane
highway without paying any Tolls ??!!

Whereas here in Malaysia you have to pay yearly renewal for road tax ,
driving license and TOLLS, TOLLS, TOLLS!!!

For Singapore how can you quote RM 5.20 ? Please quote in Singapore
Dollars because they are earning in Sing Dollars. You might as well
say Europeans are paying RM10/liter. RM5.20/liter = Sing $ 2.20/liter,
still cheaper than Malaysia in view of fact that Singapore is not a
crude oil exporter. Are you saying that you fill up petrol in
Singapore by paying Ringgit?

In economy, dollar to dollar must be compared as apple to apple. Not
comparing like durian in M'sia is much cheaper than durian in Japan !!
Of course-lah, Japan is not durian producer!!! Comparing Malaysian
durian with Thailand durian make more sense!!

For Indonesia we might say is cheaper there at RM2.07/liter but
compare that to their level of income!

Now, let us compare the price with OIL PRODUCING countries:

UAE - RM1.19/litre
Eygpt - RM1.03/litre
Bahrain - RM0.87/litre
Qatar - RM0.68/litre
Kuwait - RM0.67/litre
Saudi Arabia - RM0.38/litre
Iran - RM0.35/litre
Nigeria - RM0.32/litre
Turkmenistan - RM0.25/litre
Venezuela - RM0.16/litre
MALAYSIA - RM2.70/litre

RM 2.70!!! Individual perspective:

As of last month a Toyota Vios would 'cause a damage' of about RM 89,000.
In the international market, a Toyota Vios is about USD 19,000
USD 19,000 = RM 62,700 (using the indicative rates of USD 1 = RM 3.30)
That makes Malaysian Vios owners pay an extra RM 26,300.

This RM 26,300 should be cost of operations, profit and tax because
the transportation costs have been factored in to the USD 19,000.

RM 26,300/ RM625 petrol rebate per year translates to a Vios being
used for 42.08 years.

I do understand that the RM 625 is a rebate given by the government,
but it also means that one has to use the Vios for 42.08 years just to
make back the amount paid in taxes for the usage of a foreign car.
Would anyone use any kind of car for that long?

Now with these numbers in front of us, does the subsidy sound like a
subsidy or does it sound like a penalty? This just seems to be a heavy
increment in our daily cost of living as we are not only charged with
high car taxes but also with a drastic increase in fuel price.

With all the numbers listed out, I urge all Malaysians to join me in
analyzing the situation further.

Car taxation is government profit, fuel sales is Petronas' (GLC)
profit which also translates into government profit. The government
may ridicule us Malaysians by saying look at the world market and fuel
price world wide. Please, we are Malaysians, we fought of the British,
had a international port in the early centuries (Malacca), home to a
racially mixed nation and WE ARE NOT STUPID!!!

We know the international rates are above the USD 130/barrel. We
understand the fact that the fuel prices are increasing worldwide and
we also know that major scientist are still contradicting on why this
phenomenon is happening. Some blame Bush and his plunders around the
world and some blame climate change and there are others which say
petroleum 'wells' are getting scarce.

Again we go back to numbers to be more straight fwd

1 barrel = 159 liters x RM2.70/liter = RM 429 or USD 134

On 1 hand, we are paying the full cost of 1 barrel of crude oil with
RM2.70 per liter but on the other hand the crude oil only produces 46%
of fuel.

Msia sells crude oil per barrel at USD130 buys back Fuel per barrel at
USD134. And not forgetting, every barrel of fuel is produced with 2
barrels of crude oil.

1 barrel crude oil = produce 46% fuel (or half of crude oil), therefore
2 barrel crude oil = approximately 1 barrel fuel
In other words, each time we sell 2 barrels of crude oil, equivalently
we will buy back 1 barrel of fuel.

Financially,
Malaysia sell 2 barrel crude oil @ USD 130/barrel = USD 260 = RM 858
then, Malaysia will buy back fuel @ USD 134/barrel = RM 442/barrel
Thus, Malaysia earn net extra USD 126 = RM 416 for each 2 barrel of
crude sold/exported vs imported 1 barrel of fuel !!!
(USD 260-134 = USD 126 = RM416)

So where this extra USD 126/barrel income is channeled to by Malaysian
Govt?????????

Another analysis:

1 barrel crude oil = 159 liters.
46-47% of a barrel of crude oil = fuel that we use in our vehicles.
46% of 159 = 73.14 liters.
@ RM 2.70/liter x 73.14 liter = RM197.48 of fuel per barrel of crude
oil. This is only 46% of the barrel, mind you. Using RM 3.30 = USD 1,
we get that a barrel of crude oil produces USD 59.84 worth of petrol
fuel (46% of 1barrel).
USD 59.84 of USD 130/barrel turns out to be 46% of a barrel as well.

Another 54% = bitumen, kerosene, and natural gases and so many more.
And this makes a balance of USD 70.16 that has not been accounted for.

So this is where I got curious. Where is the subsidy if we are paying
46% of the price of a barrel of crude oil when the production of
petrol/barrel of crude oil is still only 46%?

In actual fact, we still pay for this as they are charged in the forms
of fuel surcharge by airlines and road taxes for the building of road
(because they use the tar/bitumen) and many more excuse charging us
but let us just leave all that out of our calculations.

As far as I know, only the politicians who live in Putrajaya and come
for their Parliament meetings in Kuala Lumpur (approximately 60+ km)
are the ones to gain as they claim their fuel and toll charges from
the money of the RAKYAT's TAX.

It is so disappointing to see this happen time and time again to the
Malaysian public, where they are deceived by the propaganda held by
the politicians and the controls they have over the press.

Which stupid idiot economist equates rebates for rich or poor with the
cc of the vehicles? An average office clerk may own a second hand
1300cc proton Iswara costing $7,000 (rebate = $625) while the Datuk's
children can own a fleet of 10 new cars of BMW, Audi and Volvo all
less than 2000cc costing $2 millions and get a total rebate of $625 x
10 = $6,250! Wow what kind of economists we are keeping in Malaysia
...wonder which phD certificate that they bought from...

Misleading concept of Subsidy:

The word "subsidy" has been brandished by the BN government as if it
has so generously helped the rakyat and in doing so incurred losses.
This simple example will help to explain the fallacy:

Example:
Ahmad is a fisherman. He sells a fish to you at $10 which is below the
market value of $15. Let's assume that he caught the fish from the
abundance of the sea at little or no cost. Ahmad claims that since the
market value of the fish is $15 and he sold you the fish for $10, he
had subsidised you $5 and therefore made a loss of $5.

Question : Did Ahmad actually make a profit of $10 or loss of $5 which
he claimed is the subsidy?

Answer:
Ahmad makes a profit of $10 which is the difference of the selling
price ($10) minus the cost price ($0 since the fish was caught from
the abundance of the sea). There is no subsidy as claimed by Ahmad.

The BN government claims that it is a subsidy because the oil is kept
and treated as somebody else's property (you know who). By right, the
oil belongs to all citizens of the country and the government is a
trustee for the citizens. So as in the above simple example, the BN
government cannot claim that it has subsidised the citizen!

No subsidy for fuel? No tax on cars then!

Was at Trial 1 weekend and saw this beauty and possible beast. For those car enthusiasts, Trial needs no introduction. IIRC, Trial started as specializing in Toyota but seem they have diversifies into other models as well.

Her name is Toyota Celica SS-II 7th Generation. My personal favorite is 5th Gen GT-4 when Toyota was still in WRC. After they pulled out and joined F1, Celica after that is a big disappointment to her fans. No more force-induction and 4WD. Nevertheless, she is still a head turner.

I was rounding my neighbourhood to check out the safety 2 hours ago. Ended up I found this jewel. Many of you may not have a clear idea of Alfa Romeo let alone this model. I believe this model is rarer than a F430 in Malaysia. My source told me there is only 1 in Malaysia and is left-hand drive. Was owned by Ron Lim before he sold it (He won 2004 Malaysian Supercar Series in a FC ~~whipping the ass of others in much more powerful cars like 911,etc~~ and many other races. Some spec;

Engine: 3.0 V6 (2959 cc), 210 PS (207 hp/154 kW) at 6200 rpm,245 N·m (181 ft·lbf) at 4500 rpm
SZ : Only one official colour scheme was available: Red wth grey roof, Tan leather interior

Recently Porsche Club Malaysia, the Ferrari Owner’s Club, the SIC and the Force of Nature Aid Foundation organised Supercars for Charity on Sunday 24 Feb 2008. Thumbs up to them for the generosity. ~~if I had any of those hot rods, I won't want any strangers to sit in it unless you are Jessica Alba~~.

But on the same day, this happened. I wonder if they were the same Porsches that took part in the event? Dude, North South Highway is not like the 1 in Redline. Hope everyone is alright and get over it soon.

Movie review on REDLINE

Well, after the bad news, here is the good news. We watched REDLINE at BTS. If you are into extreme fast cars(sorry, Japanese pocket rockets did not quite make it, only saw the Silvia) and ~~boobs~~ girls. This movie is a must watch!!! I kid you not. Let me explain why.

NAT

The first scene was Jason *ahem* used only 1 hr 45 mins for a 4 hrs journet from LA to Vegas and won USD 1 M. Now you know why the rich is richer. It's like KL to JB in less than 2 hrs!! Now that would rewrite the meaning of "COOL".

SLR

One of the street racing scenes was in Vegas where Carlo (Jason's brother) trying to escape after saving Nat. Jason was behind the wheel of a super sexy top less Murcielago and hot behind was a 575. The scene ended when Jason went thru beneath a trailer safety but the 575 apparently is too high (damn) and crashed.

On the track when they bet USD 3 M per race. Jason's car (not sure what car was that) flew after using NOS and it was so fast that the spoiler took off when racing Nat in a SLR. yeah, ridiculous but how often you see a NOS car racing Benz's no 1 warrior. He was killed. As well as a Porsche GT racing an Enzo (gosh, what is the budget for this movie?). Did anyone says "Everyone has a price?"

But the most exciting was when 4 cars (S7, Enzo, Porsche GT and SLR) racing for USD 100 M. Winners take all!! Fortune is won and lose here.

The last scene was between Enzo (Carlo) and CCX (Nat). Beautifully and romantically painted. If I had a chance to paint it, I just want to paint it together with you..
